I know the importance of always grading away from the house . If you have


a basement and this is not done correctly you can have alot of water problems inside the basement . As far as a non basement [slabe on grade ] foundation , why is it so important to keep water away since there is no basement . will it cause cracks to the slab ?

First, the excess water will dilute the termite treatment and could make it ineffective.

Second, the excess moisture under the slab will migrate up, and could be through the slab if there are any openings in the moisture barrier (aren't there always some openings in the moisture barrier?).

Third, saturated soil do not have the same bearing support capacity as dry soil does, and soil supported slabs are just that, supported by the soil.
