Is this a breach of the fire wall?

The garage ceiling is not firerated as it has been modified by the homeowner.

It’s ok I found it. Since the ceiling has been modified it apparently does not matter what’s going on above it. Is this correct?

Huh?

If there is a living space on the other side of that wall (ceiling - whatever), it is required to be rated material.

Well, part of the ceiling in the garage is fire rated, but Harry took the wallboard down to do some wiring ,and replaced it with 3/8" plywood with 1/4" gaps between sheets. As you can see in the pic there is also a nice hole between the garage attic space and the living space. Does that make more sence? icon_confused.gif

Tod,

Jeff is absolutely correct. Typically the fire rated wall is always between the Garage and living area in the attic. This area has to be fire rated and where there are any penetrations, such as electrical wires, etc. they have to be routed through conduit and properly sealed using fire rated adhesive.

Ron.

Thanks all. icon_biggrin.gif Heck the hatch was plywood . I believe that in itself kinda blows the fire rating.
