Found a hole in the wall in the attic today. It is a townhouse unit and I believe it should be a firewall, therefore it shouldn’t have a hole in it. In Kentucky we are not allowed to commment on code issues. How would you write this up?

A sheetrock wall is visible in the attic area that has a hole present. The purpose of this wall appears to be intended to slow down the spread of flames therefore the hole should be patched with proper sheetrock repair materials to achieve the intended safety margin.

Or more simply:

A hole is present in the fire rated wall assembly as visible in the attic. Recommend proper repairs.
