Furnace ducts

Does anyone happen to know if you are supposed to use a special tape for heating ducts. I just inspected a house that had regular household duct tape on the heating ducts, but sounds to me like it would be too warm and melt. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Everyday hardware store duct tape should be fine as far as the heat is concerned. After some time the cheap duct tape will dry out and loose its grip.

Duct tape is not for HVAC ducts. They make a more rigid tape that is specifically designed for the continual warm / cool cycles. It looks like a shiny metal tape.
