Garbage disposal without splash guard

Do all garbage disposals have splash guards? I inspected on yesterday that did not have one. It might have torn off or are some made without them. I could not determine the brand.

Thanks for the help.

Some of the older ones were made with a hard cover/lid that had to be installed in order for the unit to work. The disposal would not operate without it in position. I haven’t seen any newer models made without a splashguard.

Thanks, I haven’t either but I haven’t seen em all.

It wont hurt to write it up. The rubber splash guard or a unit that operates only when the plunger is installed is how its designed, so go ahead an call it out. The item can prevent pieces of debris from exiting the drain when in operation and it should be there.

That’s called a “batch feed disposal”, and they actually still make them.
