Gas vent type-B for a water heater

Doing an inspection on a house the other day and came across this. I am wondering if the tape is sufficient for capping off the old gas furnace chimney. The type-B vent you see still in use is for the gas water heater. For reference, the house used to have a gas furnace but has been changed out for a heat pump. Just wondering if there is concern of the tape coming undone from the heat in the attic/vent pipe.
Thanks

Only if the tape is rated for such a use.

I would never use a tape in lieu of a proper metal clean-out cap. The tape in question is rated to 210F. A b-vent on cat1 appliance is good for up to around 400F. What do you think?

That tape is rated to 200F. Wrong product for the job. Write it up.

3-M makes a foil tape rated to 600F.

The tape looks wrong, why the “TEE” in the first place?

Old common vent, should have used a wye. Also, the orphaned water heater is another problem beyond the taped hole.

Can’t argue with that, I went years with no interaction here. Something/Someone called on me to come back here to interact with this forum.

Then how can you honestly make a statement like…
