Out of curiosity, I thought I would wait and see how long it would take before I was contacted by the local ASHI chapter of my state. It hasn’t happened yet. But I have received several contacts from the NACHI chapter. Looks to me like my fellow ASHI chapter members are afraid to help the new guy out, or else afraid of the competition. I get the feeliong that ASHI doesn’t want me or need me…Tom

I don't know about the other 2 you mention. I never visited them. But I can assure you that http://www.inspectionews.com is NOT a public home inspection forum.

I myself know of 6 people who can't access that board. Must be more.

True, Brian owns Inspectionnews.com. he has rules for the forum as most forums do. They are published on the site. If memory serves me, those that were banished from the forum did not abide by the rules and were given several chances. They chose not to play by the rules as everyone else was.

All of the other boards are also privately owned, they allow you to participate as long as you abide by their rules.

Tom,

Why have you not made an attempt to contact the local chapter? I don't know a thing about the chapter in Arkansas, but I did see that you have them listed in your profile as belonging to it. It looks like it is a small chapter, like ours in Mississippi. I know that I have made attempts to contact new members that I am made aware of, and many times I can never reach them for whatever reason.

You need to get involved in your association no matter what association it is. The more you get involved the more you will get our of your membership.

Life is too short to wait for an invitation.

You have describe my feelings with an association up here in Canada that has very close ties to ASHI in the U.S...I am about to send a similar letter myself.

Scott,

Your probably right that I should make the effort to contact the local chapter, but I just figured the local chapter president would contact me, It shouldn’t be hard since we live in the same city. Since I am the new guy on the block I think the first move belongs to him, that is if he is concerned with the profession as a whole and the development of ASHI. But, I get the feeling that the members in Arkansas don’t want to see any new members added to ASHI. I have been contacted by ASHI chapters in Missouri, Oklahoma, & Texas to attend training opportunities, and went to one recently in Missouri. I enjoed it and learned some new thing. I feel like I have something to add to the profession, having fairly extensive experience doing mold investigations, but I would rather belong to an organization that is concerned about its individual members. NACHI just offers more to those starting out, as far as helping them get started…Tom

I for one was never given "several chances" by Baghdad Brian, just a single message saying I was banned. I've also watched others get banned. I've watched my own words get edited without my permission. And have since watched entire threads get deleted. InspectioNaziNews is certainly not an "open" forum.

Maybe that is why I am overly defensive about any moderation on this board.

Doesn't much matter anyway. InspectioNaziNews is less active than my fat Aunt Lizzy, God rest her soul. And like all Commi-controlled media, its still a great forum if you want to talk breaker ampacity or the weather.

Nick,

You sound as passionate about NACHI and inspectionnews.com as I was about Bible preaching in certain threads at NACHI.

Thanks for the imput. I plan to represent our profession as well as I am able. I know that I still have things to learn, but I feel like I have a good understanding of the basics having done home repairs for over 30 years, and hundreds of Mold Investigations. I will for the time being continue as a member of both ASHI and NACHI. But I am very open as to which organization will help me the most. Never thought I would be on this message board, but here I am. I plan to make this decision work. Haven't had any jobs yet through the NACHI networking, but I have had a couple of calls. I will be listed in the new phone book coming out in a couple of weeks, and I hope that will help. I am fortunate, to have the mold background, because I am getting calls from realtors wanting to know what to do about mold issues being brought up by other home inspectors in their inspections.............Tom

I am very passionate about NACHI. I am taking a year off from being a REALTOR to devote myself to NACHI full time for all of 2004. I've been a REALTOR for a long time now and I need a break. RE/MAX is allowing me to keep my license active till I return.

Careful, you may have to post that on the "other" thread. ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

I wish I could take off a year and devote to NACHI. That would be fun. I would create a course to teach NACHI home inspectors how to be successful businesspersons at the same time. And then I would take on ASHI and CREIA here in California. We would crush them. And then we would move into Oregon. And then Washington. And then Nevada. And then Arizona. And then Utah. And then Idaho. And then Montana. Ah the stuff that dreams are made of!

To Everybody Listening -

We're in America. Everybody doesn't want to own a Chevrolet. Some people want to drive Fords, Dodges, Toyotas or a BMW. Home Inspection Associations are the same way. Different people have different needs from a National Association and others don't choose to belong to any association (local or national) except the association of themselves.

I'm in Kansas City and because of the ASHI Branding Program and of what they see as a GIANT PUSH by ASHI toward state licensing of HI's everywhere (wanted or not / needed or not) several 8-10 Year Veteran FULL MEMBERS and Officers of the local ASHI Chapter have dropped out of ASHI. This includes the last years Chapter President, the Chapter Vice President and the Chapter Treasurer.

So Be It and we wish them all the best. If 1 group is not meeting your needs whatever those needs are, we hope you find a group that does.
