Guess The Roof Shingle Age

Kenton
Sorry Kenton I I forget to ask around about organic shingles.
I was thrown off by that expression ‘’ organic’’
I am use to composite.
Have some organic farmer friends that would scoff at the notion but would look into it after I explained.
I will set out on a quest soon and if not PLEASE REMIND ME. I am busy putting away the boat-jobs- uncles dieing and I came to be with mom 6 years ago, to watch her see is 88 3 strokes in 2 years and legally blind. slows me down but love her.
Shes great and healthy mentally but 88 and her brothers going is of some concern to me.
I will look and if there there I will find reference for you.
I almost tried to eat a shingle to see how organic they really are. HA HA HA HA.
I will put a note on my word note pad and open my note pad first thing every morning.

Robert the term “composite” means that asphalt composition shingles are not made of asphalt alone. They’ve got a fiberglass or cellulose mat embedded in asphalt and the asphalt has filler made of crushed stone. They’re covered with stone granules coated with a special material and on the underside have some kind of backsurfacing material like sand.

Metal, wood and tile roofs are typically made of just one material, even through the metal is typically an alloy or may be an inner metal of one type with an outer coating of a different type of metal. Yes… concrete tiles are made of concrete which is cement, an aggregate and some other admixtures., but these look like one material. Comp (composite) shingles don’t.

Yes Kenton I went and looked at what Mr.Cyr posted and do understand about shingle manufacturing process for my friends uncle was a rep and Toured Domtar manufacturing plant in the early 1980.
I am in Quebec and the terms are different and get lost in the confusion.
I will be looking more into the processes ad terminology thanks to you and Mr.Cyr’s help and truly enjoy the effort you are donating tome.
All is being saved on Microsoft Word 2007.
I will look for organic shingles for you. Give me the mans of the companysand let be do a little digging,Kenton.

Robert thanks, but I don’t believe organic shingles are still manufactured in North America.

Kenton
The only information I get is TEED is under a class action law suite for one of there organic shingles I do not think it was all there styles but 1 was good enough to put a nail in the coffin to continue manufacturing them .

here is some thing new but longevity is the question.

**Regarding the Shingles Age: **

Extensive damage, wear or deterioration of the roof covering was noted. These conditions lend themselves to moisture intrusion. The roof covering has exceeded its safe and useful lifetime.

Replacement recommended. We recommend having a licensed and competent roofing contractor service, repair, or replace any deficiencies or unreliable conditions with the roof covering or its accessories (flashing, vents, etc) as needed to properly correct them. We also recommend that you verify the insurability and acceptability of the new roofing with your insurance company prior to closing.
