Just a single unit with one thermostat.
Michael B.,
Now that you mention it that is really close to where the the doorbell was located down below. The T-stat wire ran under the insulation and then appeared to be coming back up to these units so that is why I thought it had to do with the HVAC, well that and as I mentioned earlier, the Romex coming into the J-boxes from the switch for the furnace. I guess they just continued the circuit for the doorbell.
Both Michaels, thanks for the replies. I am finishing up the report now. At least I know what they could be and I feel better knowing this is not something to be overly concerned about. After all I would hate to have to fail the house. ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)
Although a brief conversation with my client (he is out of state and wanted a quick an dirty run down) seems to indicate he may pass on the home. Guess I need to work on my selling techniques to get a second inspection from him if he passes on this home.

Hi to all,
I gree with them being used as transformers that power zone dampers, I have seen those quite often, yes they are similar to the doorbell transformers but I believe the voltage is higher, if I remember correctly they supply 24 Volt AC.
BTW I hope that you wrote up the lack of bushings at the junction box ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

Gerry,
As the boxes are a composite/plastic material, I didn't think about bushings.
Would they still be needed with this type of box? The reason I ask is because I had to replace a fixture box in my house and it was this type and had no bushings.
