Did you take the cover off the box? The “stuff” seems to be leaking out from behind the socket, as there does not look to be any on the top part of the plug in the picture.

Just a thought,

No I didn’t. Can’t even give you a good reason why.

This is on the plug and the tag is completely saturated.

FPN:Thermoplastic insulation may stiffen at temperatures lower than minus 10?C (plus 14?F).

Thermoplastic insulation may also be deformed at normal temperatures where subjected to pressure, such as at points of support.

Thermoplastic insulation, where used on dc circuits in wet locations, may result in electroendosmosis between conductor and insulation.

I’m betting they just spilled something.

What did it smell like? Simple Green?

Wick a bit out on a paper towel if you don’t want to touch it.

looks like the guy used his pump to change the antifreeze in his car. soaked tag that pitches away from plug suggests that liquids origin is a little higher. maybe it sat on the garage floor until just before the inspection. icon_cool.gif

Jay I think you got it. The plug was in a puddle of green stuff while he used the outlet for something else. Anti-freeze is as good a guess as anything.

Back in the day an inspector would have tasted it!
