Before I started doing HI I can’t tell you how many times I have seen this in houses. Even if you tell the owners about it they never do anything about it.
It drives me crazy how lazy people can be.
Oh, does that make me lazy when I replace the end of my 12 gauge extension cord with a plastic zip box, receptacle & a plastic cover plate because I have then in the garage and don't want to go to the store for a replacement cord end or a 2nd extension cord because I need to plug in two things at the same time?

My house was loaded with boxes like that. No wirenuts, just twisted and taped. Then the whole attic was blown in with shreaded newspaper insulation.
