Hole above shower in condo

2004 Condo, 4-story 200 unit building

What’s this hole above the shower?

I couldn’t find anything on this forum. A possible answer was found on another forum stating condensate drain but it seems like a weird spot for a condensate drain. It is adjacent to the air handler for electric furnace and A/C.

That would be my best guess. Just about everyone getting ready to take a shower is going to think that there is a camera in it though.

Were you able to find a different location for the condensate drain? I agree, odd location in my opinion.

It’s the secondary condensate drain. I suspect the evaporator coil & air handler are in the ceiling behind a metal cover somewhere close. Did you find the evaporator coil?

I see it quite often in condos built in the 70’s & 80’s & condos with another unit above (no attic space).

Edit: autocorrect typo.

Without seeing more, I think you nailed it, David. lol

Negative.

Yes, the evaporator coil is housed in the laundry/utility room directly behind this bathroom. Thanks for the feedback :+1:

Air handler secondary drain (pan drain). It’s installed in a “conspicuous location”.

Grab yourself some Doritos and stick your finger in the hole to see what happens.

Yes, my bad. I did mean secondary condensate drain installed in a conspicuous or easily noticed location.
Damn, wouldn’t that be annoying if it was the primary?!

That was my thought at first but it’d be a great way to conserve H20

Guessing like condos are stacked so there’s a tub or shower directly above? It leaked and handyman didn’t want to repair the drywall so he threw in something that looks like it serves a purpose? And, it’s worked flawlessly for years until the damn home inspector came along!
