Hey everyone, I’m planning to install a new toilet and want to make sure I do it correctly. I have the toilet, a wax ring, and some basic tools, but I’m not entirely sure about the process.
What are the key steps to follow? Should I use a wax ring or a rubber seal? Any tips to prevent leaks and avoid common mistakes?
I’d appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hire a qualified plumber.
Call a plumber, a leak coulf be catastrophic, quite a risk
The one failure I see almost daily is the flange is not properly secured to the floor. This is especially true on a concrete slab.
A single wax ring with a horn is the way to go if the flange is mounted on top of the finished floor surface. If the flange is even with the finished floor surface, get a taller wax ring with a horn.
Once the toilet is installed and secured to the flange shim any high spots, so the toilet doesn’t rock loose in the future. Test it before running a bead of caulk across the base of the toilet. Leave the back of the toilet open so that if there is a leak, you can see it.
