Didn’t want you to think I was one of (people like to hide behind it and act in control.) I am helping a friend build a new home and with 8 guys framing for 2 days 15 hour each left no time. And I to have a few years on the back side of a hammer, over 30.

Paul, You say your helping people saving them a lot of money but you charge about the same for the kit as a home inspection, were is the savings?
I, for the most part only inspect 1 home per client.
I as an experienced inspector drive up and in 2-3 hours give them an informed report. I just saved them a load of time on trying to learn to inspect there own home.
One question comes to mind is how many banks will except an inspection from a home buyer inspecting there own home?

Now what you are doing is great for you if you can make money at it, thinking outside the box. I really don't care for it but that's me. What I do not like is it sounds like NACHI is endorsing your product and should be made clear it is not.

Without endorsing any viewpoint on the matter of selling do-it-youself home inspection kits, I want to point out that some of the staunch defenders of the kits are sometimes placed in the group accused of trying to control things.

I frequently visit and make use of physicians and dentists. I also own and occasionally have used the tools necessary for crude dentistry and once I even sutured a wound. Countless times I have self-diagnosed and self-treated a variety of ailments as I'm sure everyone else has.

The trick is to know when "Dr. Myself" can handle it and when the real pros are needed. ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif) ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif) ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

Mike

For me, Mr. Rooff has hit the nail on the head, and let it be known up front that I am a rank-and-file NACHI member, not an "officer". Regardless of anyone's opinion of the NACHI exam, one must pass it in order to perform an inspection that is certified to meet NACHI standards. If the homeowner/buyer/client/whoever was required to pass the NACHI exam prior to purchasing the kit, then maybe-- *maybe*-- the implied association would be valid. But even that would be a question for the NACHI education committee.

As far as "undercutting" or competition, well, the fact is that NACHI members compete with each other every day for business. That's a given. The big concern here-- for *me*, at least-- is devaluing the name of a professional organization I belong to via association with a product that the organization has not endorsed.

I don't think that's true at all since no one at NACHI ever asked to see even one of my home inspection reports. Just because one passes a test does not mean that one is inspecting to any standards whatsoever. It simply means that one passed a test to join an organization.

This is my first post so please bare with me. I joined a little earlier this year and so far the membership has paid for its self. I have had a few contacts through the find an inspector.com and I could not be happier. I thought I read something to the effect that when I joined I would receive an I.D. #. I have seen I.D. #'s on competitors cards and trucks and I was wondering if maybe I just lost it without even knowing I had it.

Thanks
Ken

To show up as a NACHI member, simply use your members-only username and password. Your NACHI username is your first initial and last name (followed by a number if your last name is common).

Please note: In any posts made before you became a member you will still show up as a non-member.
