Alright, I’ll get straight to the point. What’s the deal with this organization? I have been visiting this site on and off for over 6 months now. I have come very close to signing up as a member, but just when I get ready to write the check I chicken out. There seems to be something just not right about NACHI. Now before some of you die hard NACHI guys start sending me death threats, let me explain myself. I am not here to do any organization or inspector bashing. I simply want someone to explain some things to me and maybe some others out there who maybe sitting on this fence as well. I have been reading many old posts on this message board filled with a lot of promises that seem too good to be true. I have read many of the posts about Lowering Insurance for NACHI members, Nick trying to buy NAHI, were going to start this web site called realmatcher that is going to turn the real estate world on it’s head. The list goes on and on. I read these posts and get all excited thinking, WOW this organization is really shaking things up. Then I look at the date of the posts and see they are 1-2 years old. All talk no action. Once again I’m not trying to put anyone or any org. down. I would just like some honest answers to these questions.

Nick, I think there are hundreds of people in the same position as I am. Now is the time to put away all the hype and let us know what this NACHI is really about. If you can prove to me that NACHI is doing all this I’ll be the first to open my checkbook and sign up.

P.S. If there is anyone out there in MD who has chapter info please feel free to contact me. overbrookinspect@msn.com icon_confused.gif

I am a Member and happy to be one. However, you are correct about the a

lot of talk and no action. I think you have to realize this Org. is still in it’s infancy and a lot of thoughts and suggestions are made on this board that have to be hashed out amongst the members and the powers that be. These things take time and 1 item might be suggested and then the next great idea may take presidents over the first.

I can say this though my membership fee has been repaid many times over just from the internet presence that I receive from “find an inspector” and the knowledge base in the members only section of this board.

I hope this helps.

As a member I will tell you that NACHI is the organization to belong to. I sent out mousepads early on, and they got me more business and many kudos. I get a discount on my E&O that pays for the membership here. We have a members only section on this board where we post things just for other members to see, and the majority of it is educational. We are in process of developing many more things, many of which take time, and some things become more important and push other good ideas back a bit, but they are not forgotten. Everything from Continuing Education to the National Convention. If you live in a metropolitan area, findaninspector.us will probably pay for your membership itself. We have chapter meetings which all (not just NACHI members) are not only allowed but are encouraged to attend. All of us at NACHI have a say, not just Nick.

If you have been monitoring the board, you already see that the members are quick to help newcomers, offer ride alongs, answer technical questions and offer advice on everything from electrical issues to child rearing. This organization is full of good men and women.

I inspected for several years without belonging to any organization. I found this one and like you, waited to join. I'm very glad I did, and welcome you if you decide to!

Mr. Bartels,

Just a few questions for you.

1. Why the poll? This poll has nothing to do with your request.
2. Why a personal letter to Mr. Gromicko posted for all to see?
3. What's your agenda?

You state that you have read all of the message boards. Have you read all of the NACHI Categorys to left in the dark blue area? Have you checked out FREA in the members benefits area? What is your explanation for time needed to get a project or idea started. (1 day, 2days, maybe 6months, how about 2 years). Some ambitious projects are tackled a little at a time. Some are found not to be beneficial and dropped. Others may take off like wild cats. Who knows but at least NACHI is trying.

I wish I could invite you to the member's only section. What you are reading here in the general section is only a tip of the iceberg.

It would be my wish that you reconsider your post and at least eliminate the poll.

Thank you for reading

Thanks for the input. I am interested to see how Nick will respond to this.

Have you tried to be an active part of this organization? If so, was anyone willing to help? I’m trying to see if this is really for the people by the people kind of thing or are we all just suckers falling for a smooth sales pitch. You’ve got to hand it to Nick. He is damn good at that.

Settle down Mr. Bowman. I did not mean to offend anyone in my post. As for the poll, I just saw it as an option and thought it looked interesting. If anyone else is offended by such a thing I would gladly remove it if only I knew how. I am new to this message board posting and still a little slow on the whole computer thing in general. As far as programs go, if you read my post you will see I am asking a very reasonable question. Are these things taking place or all they just hype? I understand things take time but I have seen no updates. And finally, no I have not read all of the posts or all of the things on this site. There are enough to fill a weeks worth of time. Did I miss something? Probably. That is why I put up this post to get to the meat of this thing. As for my motives… I’m the president of ASHI and NAHI! Just kidding, calm down, not everyone who questions something is some spy from another organization.

You ask this. Let me tell you, I have been a member for going on a year now. I have started NACHIs Charity Foundation, I am planning the convention, and sit on the steering committee. One thing you would learn about this org, if you are willing to put in the work anyone can volunteer to do something.

Send me a message and lets Chat...[/quote]

Matthew,

Go to Gary's post and click on the PM button. You can send him a private message just like an email.

I will have to ditto Gary's post. Being on the convention committee also at no expense paid.

Do we do this for Nick, certainly not, we do it so that others can benefit through education, idea sharing and personal contact. We are a family, we do support each other and aid others outside of this org. Does your organization do the same?

Do we participate? Yes! Can anyone participate? Yes! You will get only so much from any organization when you join. You will get a lot more when you truly become a part of it!

Do members benefit?

Over 2800 active members will most likely agree! Of course you wont miss what you haven't tried! Now the question is are you a Leader or Follower?

Hi Mathew:

Sorry, just read your post now.

You mentioned three items. Here are my responses to all three:

1. Lower insurance rates: Already done. Many insurance companies including FREA already offer NACHI-member only discounts. See http://www.nachi.org/insurance.htm Joe Ferry announced new developments about E&O insurance at our http://www.nachi.org/longislandchapter.htm meeting. Dental and health insurance discounts are already done. See http://www.nachi.org/whats_new.htm

2. NAHI purchase: It might happen but don't hold your breath. NAHI's renewal rate is horribly low and it really isn't in our best interest to mate with the slow dog in the pack. We are now many times larger than ASHI & NAHI put together, from every angle you look at it: Membership, # of local chapters, # of events http://www.nachi.org/events.htm , growth rate, geographic area of the globe covered, size of website, # of websites, size of events and chapters, member benefits, deals and discounts http://www.nachi.org/deals.htm , leads generated, search engine ranking, internet dominance http://www.nachi.org/domains.htm , sister organizations, free online and classroom education http://www.nachi.org/education.htm , online tools, helpful advice, hits http://www.nachi.org/stats.htm , size and activity on this message board, etc... Buying NAHI would be kind of going backwards at this point. But who knows?

3. REALmatcher.com: Already done but will not be launched online until NAR breaks its official ties with REALTOR.com in 2005. Coattail marketing/timing reasons.

NACHI is much like a 100 lane bridge growing to accomodate demand... some lanes are always under constuction, new lanes are always being added.

If it disturbs or upsets you that some of our benefits take time to develop, just don't look at the very bottom of http://www.nachi.org/benefits.htm In other words put your cursor on your scroll bar of http://www.nachi.org/benefits but as soon as the first list ends... STOP. Don't read any further. Just pretend the page ends there and that you only see the first list. Use your scroll bar carefully and slow so you don't see too much.

Hope that helps.

Nick

Matt, it was nice taliking with you. Course I don’t want to talk to my local competition too much, I already know what happens icon_biggrin.gif . Seriously, if you need to know anything or want to help with setting up a NACHI chapter meeting, I would be glad to help you as I am sure Gary would too. Like I told you on the phone NACHI is member driven, and you will only get as much out as you put in.

I am curious about this article and how much truth is involved about Nick.

I don't believe everything I read, especially from the biased media outlets.

I guess I don’t agree…I think state licensing is a good thing and I think NACHI should support State Licensing of HI’s.

I don’t know the whole story behind this for Nick, so I can’t comment on that.

Interesting article.

It appears that the writer attempted to mislead the public. The Inspector mentioned in the article is a Member of a National Organization. However he does not appear on the Member list of NACHI.

One more time… just for the record:

The DEP didn't take me to court, I took the DEP to court, it was gromicko vs. DEP, not the other way around. I won, the head of the DEP certification was forced to resign. After which, they filed a claim against Sunn Corp which I have not owned any percentage of since 1995 when I sold the last of my shares of stock (and received a tax clearance certificate from the state of PA...public record). I haven't even been to Pittsburgh in 10 years except once for a NACHI Chapter meeting and once to transfer planes.

I've never been divorced, never driven drunk, I sit on the board of several non-profit organizations including a free clinic, I had 2 speeding tickets this year (after a perfect driving record... bummer).

I have no financial interest at all in any home inspection businesses nor any remotely related business, although I've lent several NACHI members money (my own) several times.
