Poor New Orleans…man o man did that storm get big in a hurry…Florida dodged the bullet this time…looks like an absolute monster of a storm. Hope everyone fares well…I see some people just don’t get it, and won’t leave.

Being born and raised in New Orleans I have family in route now to come stay with me here in Shreveport. I heard that FEMA ranks a direct hit from a Cat 5 hurricane on New Orleans their 3rd worst disaster that could happen in the country. New Orleans mayor has stated that they except the levee systems to fail. The power company has stated that if the city is hit they could take up to 6 - 8 weeks to get power restored. All lanes of traffic on the interstates are now one way out of the city.

I remember last year after the storm hit Florida some of you guys did inspection work for possibly insurance companies determining habitability or determining loss. If anyone did this refresh my memory exactly what it was. I would like to be involved in that effort.

Thanks.

Hi to all,

Todd thanks for starting this.

I have been in contact with PaRR today, they will be the first responder on this disaster.

Should the worse case senario happen, Chris Morrell and I will make the NACHI BB and email system available to PaRR to contact members in the surrounding areas.

I would like to thank Nick for the support that he has made available should fema need it.

Watch this space.

I know that you all share my concern for our fellow members on the Gulf shores.

Regards

Gerry

BTW, my good friend Dave Bush is leaving for a staging area in Houston tomorrow, wish him and all other inspectors a safe trip.

I’m a NACHI member in my rookie year who was just getting his business off the ground (20 inspections under my belt) when this storm hit. I evacuated to North Mississippi in time to remain safe, but from what little information I can get, I think my home is no more. I live in Slidell, La., just north east of New Orleans, just a few miles from that twin span bridge that was destroyed. I won’t be allowed back into the area for weeks, I’ve been told, so I won’t know if my house is standing or not. I got out with only what I could fit into my car. I don’t know if I’ll be able to continue to be an inspector or not. (or if there is anything left there to inspect). The future is up in the air at this point.

But I consider myself lucky compared to my neighbors to the south in New Orleans. Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.

Our prayers are defintely with you. Myself and members of our church are loading a 21ft trailer and delivering it to Jackson Mississippi on Saturday to help with some relief up there. We had a pastor in that area contact us and said the need was great.
