Identify the issues

Difficult to see the issue with the 45 deg elbow in this pic. Once you catch it, it’s obvious…

Jeff

Actually yes, the slope is an issue in the second photo. I admit I rotated the photo slightly so it wasn’t obvious :), but compare the joists to the drain pipe and you can see it. So that’s another issue. There is a lesser but and related issue to the horizontal slope draining backwards.

As Jeff W. said, the other issue with the vent connection to the drain is not as obvious in the first photo, but it is discoverable. Then there is another issue which is totally obvious which no one has mentioned yet.

Think I see it, unless no cleaner was used.

Jeff

Yep, that’s another one, the pipe is not glued at the bottom of the vent.

But there is another one. This photo might make it easier. It’s a right side view of the first photo.

Since no bites on this, the other two issues were:

  1. The cut in the vent pipe just above the rubber coupler which has been leaking periodically. A second cut was also present above that one but not visible in the photo. The owner just couldn’t decide where to separate the pipe and tried multiple locations.

  2. And the angle of the vent connection to the drain is incorrect. “Flat venting” is not allowed (UPC 905.2) on a dry vent like this one and the connection to the drain must be made above the centerline of the pipe to prevent blockage.
