What was wrong with the way they built the porches.?
Were the ledger boards secured properly,etc;?

Posts not properly footed, posts 3/4 notched, undersized hardware (5/8" bolts), etc. The usual crap.

See here to learn the Chicago porch standards. I print these out and keep them in my bag. Helps to cut down arguements with contractors AND city code inspectors.

You should see the looks on their faces (both) :mrgreen:. Especially when a “mere” home inspector knows more then they do.
