And that is what quantifies your business diligence Russel. Competition is part of your business strategy & planing.
Where you express it as “agreeing to disagree” is not the right narrative IMO.
The debate is much broader deeper and wider than that.
The debate reaches into the meaning of ones personal success needs.
You see it as an educator and multi business plain where others might see it as a one man show earning extra income.
Both being successful and satisfying to the individual.
There are no bad inspectors.
Some are just hungrier than others while others maybe more gifted.
Regards Russel.
Yes…but if it is pdf file I am not sure…it makes more sense that the actual inspection data is in a database and people that need access to specific data can view it or create/query their own reports out of the data. I’m sure their could be predetermined reports that you just select without having to create them yourselves…anyways…it is all my database background talking. Maybe in the future…maybe not ??
The data need not be centrally stored, although with the ubiquitous cloud and everything wifi enabled, it could be. The data could be in xml form and placed in the same container with the application. I could see it comprised of different datatypes providing for a decent amount of abstraction and customization (e.g., The reader itself; formatting style sheets; metadata; data by owner: inspector, client, agent…). The reader could dynamically render whatever view of the data contained in the report that the user wanted based on the attributes contained within the data… Of course the inspector data would not be editable from the reader so as to ensure the integrity of the actual inspector’s report.
Someone build this - please.

I agree, I simply try to be thorough and very detailed. That way it is always the same product. The only alteration to my standard style is in a special case, like limited scope inspections.
I have a question, How does a single inspector company understand how a multi-inspector company works if they have never been multi-inspector?
My office can answer almost all questions that MAY be asked. They understand the report, they understand homes and inspections.
Using the team approach, I can stop any inspection to answer the phone with little interruption to the inspection we are at. Our team operates in a way that if one is slowed or delayed the others move to cover. My clients do not need ME to open every window, but one of my crew will. I am there to answer the tough questions while the simple and routine can be checked and answered by a team member. I am aware of all issues before we leave an inspection and the crew hears all of my explanations and comments.
Our team knows more and see more because we do more. There are more eyes looking at the house and we are more likely to see everything. We spend more time(man hours) looking at the home. Finally, since I personally conduct the WDO I see every area of the home but am not burdened with checking every outlet.
It is much the same approach many trades have used, the Master, journeyman and apprentice.
That is far reaching, comparing making a painting to inspecting a home.
You forget that I have done it both ways and prefer, the team approach.
My office would take offence to the parrot comment as they may know more than many home inspectors. As a matter of fact many inspectors call my office with questions, they usually have the answer from my office before I get involved.
I would be willing to bet I can train a monkey to check outlets and windows.
If the master plumber watching and checking the work of the journeyman, who cares who cut the pipe?
But I guess you will continue to knock what you can not comprehend.
John that is the way of the massage board. Degrade something you never attempted, knock down those who show an signs of success and NEVER ever try something new. Something new brings CHANGE…and OMG, what if I fail? Then what?
Do what people have been doing for the past 25 years and then wonder why your pay is the same as it as has been for the past 25 years and then complain about it!
You have to be the purple cow to get noticed, if not, your just performing a job and really not building and creating a BUSINESS. That is the difference
Mike I don’t know how many limited scope inspections you have done. I won’t do them and here is why.
Lets say they just want want a roof inspection, that it.
For me I get on the roof and crawl into the attic. So now in the attic, I notice a Rat staring at me, the ductwork is detached, the insulation is installed backwards and there are a ton of electrical splices WITHOUT caps or in a junction box. Now what?
Do you ignore all the other stuff? Isn’t that a HUGE liability? I know there is a contract, but there also has to be a moral obligation as well.
How do you handle it? This is what ALWAYS seems to happen to me. I get paid for one thing and then morally end up inspecting 10 things.
Bob when did you try multi inspector process? How many guys did you have? How did you perform the inspections? Let me guess, you never tried it, never seen it and never experienced it and yet your the authority on it…Too damn funny!
Hmmmm didn’t you start out with a silver spoon buying the company that already existed ?
So ironic .
For a rich guy you sure are insecure arguing on a forum to convince us guys who obviously are hate filled and nothing but part of the unwashed masses…lol
What do we know about Grey Poupon as we use Mustard on our sandwiches.
Personally I think we should all just sell out to you or work as your employees because us little Sole Proprietors simply can not compete.
Now tell me how you started your company from nothing .

Russell H, I don’t do many limited scope, I’ve done quite a few mold only and deck only. For the mold, I look for areas that may contribute to the cause, in addition to the air sample.
It’s tough because it’s hard, if not impossible to keep your blinders on and stay within the agreed scope.
Go back and read the part where my first year I made $60,000 and the business was almost a nothing business. But you seem to forget that. My silver spoon…too damn funny! I spent 10 years in the Army and then worked in Saudi Arabia…if that is living the silver spoon life, your totally mistaken.
Yes, I did purchase a company and yes I did a 1 year apprenticeship before going on my own. Your point being?
So in essence your mad because you did not do what I did? You could have searched out a company and bought it, you decided not to and now play the martyr of Home Inspectors.
There will ALWAYS be a need for single man inspector companies. Some areas do not have the volume to facilitate multi inspector firms, and that is OK. Some people don’t WANT employees and that is OK. Some people don’t want to make over $50,000 a year and fish and hunt 200 days a year, so be it.
But one thing I can do that you cannot Bob, is speak from actual experience. I was a one man show that has grown. I did not BUY a multi Inspector firm…I was just me.
So instead of being on a message board trying to convince people that you have some knowledge of something you have never seen, done, or experienced is kinda silly isn’t it?
Reminds me of Good Will Hunting…You seem to be somewhat book smart, but actually have no experience, so you speak as though you know something, when you actually know nothing in essence…
John that is the way of the massage board. Degrade something you never attempted, knock down those who show an signs of success and NEVER ever try something new. Something new brings CHANGE…and OMG, what if I fail? Then what?
Perhaps you need to stop being so paranoid and thinking everyone is jealous of you on one hand while constantly bragging with the other .
How about just being helpful past pushing peoples buttons.
I could care less personally and have no plans to hire others to do what I do myself or move to Florida so relax.
Enjoy your weekend as I have no plans to drag this out.
Full day today and 10,000 sq feet tomorrow with no need for gimmicks or widgets ,warranties, leaning up to anybody or being beholden,no stress that I gotta keep others working because if I am not growing I am shrinking, doing the full inspections and reports all by myself with no body looking up at me with open mouths to feed .I am Happy.
Guys like you never see the little jabs for fun or the humor because everything is serious and earth shaking.
