I have been trying to gather info on Indiana’s changes regarding licensing of home inspectors. I understand a bill has been signed and statewide licenses will be required by July 2005. Has anyone heard what type of testing requirements will be put into effect?

Robert,

Since you posted this message here, NACHI has started a section dedicated to legislation. Check it out.

Robert,

Looking into it now. So far I've been on the phone for an hour and no luck. Indiana Professional Licensing Agency is telling me to contact other people and the other people are telling me to contact the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Time to take off the gloves.

Hey Kevin,

Hope all is going well for you in the Hoosier State. I don't advertise to do inspections in Indiana but have been asked by a couple of the Realtors around here, (Cincy) if I would do them if asked. I always told them yes except no WDI because I am not licensed in Indiana. But if they are going to require licensure or state certification I will not be offering my services to them anymore (In Indiana). Although I have only done 1 in the last 8 months. I still don't want to break any laws.

Didn’t find anything out today-ran out of time. I’m trying to find how I can get some information on anything upcoming when it comes to the home inspection field in Indiana. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems that Kentucky is being more open about licensing than Indiana. From what I have read so far, what ever group is or was elected, they have a little more than six months left to come up with the specifics of the requirements.

I have a strong feeling that the requirments will be the same or close to the same as IL.

Currently as of today the Licensing board has not been selected, so other than the legislation that was passed, there is very little information. Hopefully there will be more information forth coming. Check out this link and see if it answers some of your questions. ![icon_idea.gif](upload://6VKizmOm2U7YYmfXNtFW4XTwFVy.gif)

I have a feeling there isn’t going to be much thought put into the laws of home inspections. 6 months till July 2004 when legislation gave them to inform us of what the details are and the board hasn’t even been selected. Piss poor if you ask me. Everything is going to be rushed and when they are done, then anyone that has to adapt to the new laws will take time also. 18 months and counting till we have to be license.

Sorry, I'm upset at this time. I had heard on the news that the government promotes the large companies to do the right thing by reward. This way they are not required to do it but there is a benefit if they do. While everyone else just has to do it and if they don't, there is a penalty. Taking more money out of my pocket. I figured that if the rules to becoming a home inspector is the same as IL, then it will cost me $5000 for two weeks of classes, the test and loss of work. ![icon_evil.gif](upload://1gvq2wV2azLs27xp71nuhZOKiSI.gif)

I called the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency and they have no idea of what's going on with the home inspection field and the person that might know something hasn't called me back for two day. I'll have time later today to give them a call back to see why.

There's my 500 bucks. Two cents doesn't get you anywhere anymore.

Thanks for the replies - I was beginning to wonder if anyone else was attempting to follow this. I’ll keep looking; someone is bound to know what’s going on. Thanks.
