Can anyone determine what insect damaged these trusses? The second photo indicates the damage was already done when the insulation was installed. The open cavities suggest that the damage was done when the trusses were bundled together and lying on the ground.
Carpenter Ants
From the size of the holes, I am thinking carpenter bees.
Cerambycinae
The reason they’re called “old house borers” due to their long life cycle.
It usually take many years until recognizable damage is observed.
So… I don’t get why it showed on new to be installed trusses, unless the wood was not kiln dried properly & this is the result of being in the tree.
Looks like Carpenter Bees to me.
Edit: Listen to Marc, not me.
I’m going with Carpenter Bee, Cerambycinae and wood rot. ![]()
My wag… Old damage. Roof sheathing repaired and replaced here and there. Loose fill blown in Cellulose in damaged truss webs.
Because the truss web damage does not look active with insects and there are no visible signs I would steer away from committing to a cause.
No recommendations therein. Not enough damage to webs.
