Would love everyones insight here. This wall is at an entrance where two roof planes meet, gutters are installed and clear.
On the interior this is painted and taped foil faced insulation against the concrete block walls. I pulled back the rim joist insulation with no water stains, or moisture damage.
Moving on, I think there are two independent issues here. The sump in the corner is adjacent to the garage above (so no rain water issues suspected) and I believe this moisture and microbial like growth and staining are related to the open pit and a water supply that is either seeing a lot of condensation (common in our areas of MN) or a slow intermittent leak.
Now onto what I’m asking about. These streaks on the foil faced insulation. I found a large amount of mouse droppings in the attic, a mouse trap in this corner where the sump is located, and mouse trails within the insulation, and damage to the insulation which I’m thinking is related to the mice.
In conclusion, my best guess is mouse piss. Ya’ll think I’m off track?
I’m not a rodent expert, but I think it would take a lot of mice to make all of those stains and streaking. Probably would smell fairly horrific. I see water staining on the floor joists, insulation, and floor. If there is nothing above the area that could have leaked, and you have ruled out moisture intrusion from the exterior, my next guess would be a water supply leak in the basement that sprayed down the area at one point.
Well, that was a heck of a party those mice had. That’s a lot of pee! Especially considering I doubt they were purposely pissing over the edge, so it had to build up enough to “run off” lol.
