This roof is covered with 3-tab asphalt shingles. At the time of the inspection, no signs of defect were observed in the shingles themselves. However, the uphill side of the chimney does not have a cricket (diverter) installed. When the side of a chimney that is parallel with the roof’s peak, has a width of 30" or greater, it is required to have a cricket, to divert water around the chimney. There are also signs (uneven shingle colors) that the shingles on the uphill side of the chimney may have been repaired/replaced at some point. I recommend further inspection and repair by a qualified roofing contractor.
