Install Prehung French doors

I purchased a Prehung French door 68” w x 81-5/8” length that includes the door jamb.
I also purchased 2 sidelights 12” w x 81-5/8” height each also with door jamb. Total with of the three is 94” width.
My opening is 96” width by 97” height. I was wondering if I could connect the door jambs together and put a long header across
Any suggestions
First pic is opening

If the opening was there and adequately self supporting (header already in wall) before you removed the jambs, it appears that you would just need to adequately fill in the opening to the rough opening size needed for the french doors and 2 sidelights.

Of course, removing flooring in the way is a consideration and I’m not there to verify anything.

The answer is an empathic “NO.” You would have no where near enough strength for the French doors. IMO you will need at least floor-to-ceiling double studs or 4x4 on both sides. I think your options are to either to widen the opening or forgo one of the sidelights.

Hire a professional

By professional do you mean a carpenter

I had a carpenter come out and they suggested placing a board to connect jambs together and that just didn’t seem like it would be enough to support structure. I will have someone else come out to get another opinion

Good point although many doors and side lights that I have installed are made to do exactly that.

Maybe you have a different experience installing them.
