Interesting panel set up

I am asking for any knowledge of the set up below.

It seems it used to be knob and tube but they upgraded the panel at some point. Receptacles checked out as grounded and cover plates taken off to confirm it. So they went through all that trouble to re wire but left the disconnect in its original state?

In a picture below you see knob and tube that they have grounded. Can someone explain this at all?

The blue arrow represents original house wiring (K&T) but it is now disconnected in a crawlspace.

Overall thoughts and concerns?

Licensed electrician should evaluate and make any necessary updates to bring the electrical system to modern safety standards.

I was just going to post similar to what Simon said. Find all of the defects you can, and I see a few in those photos, and refer to a qualified electrician.

It’s acceptable to scavenge a ground, to turn a 2 wire K&T outlet into a grounded three prong outlet. The rest of it, I’ll leave others to comment on.
Could you confirm if it’s modern wire to the outlets, or a mix of a scavenged ground and older K&T wiring back there?

And what’s that? An old meter socket?

In brief, I would write something like this - The electrical distribution panel and sub panels were outdated equiptment and questionable wiring methods were viewed. Have a Qualified Electrical contractor make corrections as needed.

If any energized K&T was found that should also be addressed.

Amazing amount of electrical issues. K&T, obsolete service equipment, enclosure corrosion to faulty wiring.
An upgrade is required by a licensed electrical contractor, immediately!

The outlets were modern wire and thanks for the explanation.

This was referred to a qualified electrician but I was curious to learn more about this.

This is where you forego itemizing every defect. Include a few photos and recommend a full evaluation and repair of the electrical system by a licensed electrician.

Someone needs to throw a grenade at that mess and start over. My guess is that at one time a sparky lived in that house.

I would also agree updating outdated circuit breakers, even if functional based on age likely failure is high.
