Is this a drum trap? First I have seen in the field and it is a fairly modern fixture. Home built in '1997.

Yes, that is what it is. Apparently, they are similar. So, 1997 home…think it is a problem?

From what I understand, they’re prone to clogging. Never dealt with one personally. It’s not a defect but worth mentioning their issues.

Look at the fixture it is attached to. I should write it up due to bad taste.

Nope. It is a bottle trap. You can still purchase Bottle traps at local hardware stores.
Bottle Traps can be compliant in jurisdictions.

A few conditions may need to be met for this bottle trap to be approved.

Is there a special condition which requires the trap?

Are the interior components non-corrosive?

Bottle traps are still very popular for use with Pedestal sinks as to their ability to be hidden within the pedestal.
