This is the first time that I’ve seen this, but I am certain that the NEC covers it. It was a nice whittle job.

Hey John

Question! The picture is a 15amp twin breaker. Wooden peg inserted behind the trip lever. Trip indicator on red, indicating that its tripped off. Is this correct? Or is power still being applied to the circuit?

Obiviously there's a short in the system or overload occurring. What did you find behind the cover? Were you able to trace down the problem?
Or was the peg inserted to prevent someone from resetting the circuit breaker again?

Paul,

It was tripped. House was vacant (corp relo) so I reset the breaker. I tested everything. Nothing wrong except one light not coming on in one bedroom. Wiring in the panel looked fine. Plenty of extra space in the panel to wire anything you could want.

Ok, probably had a bad light fixture there or something.

It's one of those situations thats just dying for an explanation from the owner. Like, I don't know, been that way since we moved in!

Hi John

I am disgusted with you, as a member of this org and a professional home inspector you should know that only full branches are allowed as part of branch circuit wiring.......... twigs are just not up to the job ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Sorry but someone had to go there

Regardless of what you do to that breaker…twig it…tape it…breaker lock it…super glue it…if the breaker is a good breaker it will STILL trip. The only thing the twig and the tape and the lock and the glue does is keep the handle in the on position…it will still do it’s trip function.

John ... I'm surprised you even touched that breaker, unless you are a licensed electrician too. If that circuit sparks the house, they might be knocking at your door even if you didnt really do anything wrong ... ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif)
