Is it a requirement to have a floor drain installed in a main floor laundry? I’ve seen it on a second floor laundry, but not a main floor laundry.

In Ontario, not required by OBC.

I just did all the plumbing in a 4 bedroom 4 bath home with a second floor laundry. I also did all the hot water baseboard heating lines.

I asked the inspector about a floor drain because I did not install one. He told me it was not required.

This is in Michigan.

Don't forget, the drain for washing machines require a 2" drain pipe.

p.s. The only thing that required a license to connect was the boiler. That had to have a licensed mechanical engineer.

As a matter of fact, in Ontario, it is not a requirement to have a floor drain in a second floor laundry room.
