March Recap -- TPREIA Greater Austin Chapter (TGAC) Meeting

Monthly Meeting Summary:

For all fellow inspectors in the Greater Austin, Texas area that could not attend March’s official gathering of the TPREIA Greater Austin Chapter (TGAC), you missed out on several enjoyable hours of comrade. For all who were able to join us for last month’s TGAC meeting, we are looking forward to meeting up with you again each and every month to ensure we are endeavoring 3 of TPREIA’s greatest directives:

  • Continuing education (Earn educational credits at NO extra cost!)
  • Assisting one another to ensure the inspection industry as a whole is improved
  • while understanding how to better serve the general public.

And remember TPREIA members earn CEUs simply for being a chapter member and listening to something you likely already want to hear all while enjoying a good dinner. Also, these credits are much harder to come by as recently re-evaluated by TREC, TPREIA has/is going the extra mile to ensure we are a go in this regard without regulatory surprises.

A few quick bullets of the success of the initial meeting:

  • Head count of 22
  • Several visitors decided to move to full membership benefits.

With this kind of continued growth we will be looking for a much bigger & better venue.

One guest summed it up best*** “I like that no one is holding their cards tight to the chest here.” We really could not have said it any better, so come out and see for yourself.***

It is a common conversation to hear a couple inspectors discussing, “ hey I’m buried this week, can I send some work to you?”**

That is what is really about – finding common ground and ways to work together even while in competition.

Guest Educational Speaker:

-2004 Asbestos Abatement Cert. -EPA Certified, Universal Level
    -HVAC Certified

Thank You **Leorange** for an educational, interesting, and humorous trek through some of your inspections! (see the attached photos)

There’s certainly a whole lot to know about appliances, which is likely why we had such a huge turnout.
Did you know?

  1. Range exhaust vents that recirculate to indoors SHOULD have the grease filters replaced with optional charcoal filters?
  2. That warming drawers can heat as high as 250 degrees F?
  3. There are telltale sounds of a dishwasher with issues?
  4. What kind of oven testing equipment do you use? The cheapo $5 ones are not very reliable.
  5. How do you test the oven? Most ovens/ranges will heat above the set point and then gradually cool down to the set point; so all those deficient ovens may be on target, just not tested at the optimal point in the cycle.

List of the festivities:
30 minutes of networking
15 minutes of TGAC discussion
15 minutes discussion of TREC changes
45 minutes of Leorange’s insight regarding what to do an NOT do.
