my question is has anyone seen metal chimney with a brick façade ( like wallpaper) before? Is this a good idea or not?

The ones in our area are simply metal siding with a brick pattern. No issue if installed correctly (like most things…)
Same around here. Did yours have a double wall vent inside of the metal surround and a top? If not…
Do you have a picture looking down inside from the top?
no photo looking down the chimney … I am not tall enough to do that on this chimney… but thanks for the idea if I can reach it. J F
You can always use an extendable mirror.
This is where a drone pays itself off. I have encountered many chimneys where I wouldn’t be able to get a good look at if it weren’t for the drone. The DJI Mavic Mini I use is super easy to control and takes excellent pictures and has a very short learning curve.
The only downside is that it can be a bit finicky depending on your phone (your phone is a major part of the controller), and you have to get the license to use it for inspecting.
A drone wouldn’t do much good, to try and look down inside the chimney.
…unless it was a military drone that had a 1,000,000 candle power spot/flood light.
That might work…
You don’t need to look very far down inside the chimney to answer Larry’s question. Usually you just need a clear view of the top. A drone is very capable in this regard, in my opinion.
Are you inferring that you see chimneys (in Minnesota) without raincaps on them? That’s the only way a drone would have any chance in hell of seeing even a short distance down a flue. And if you are, that in itself is an issue, and probable cause/indicator of the clay flue being damaged enough to call it out for a Level II and likely repairs!
I’m inferring that when you are too short to observe the top of a chimney, a drone can help with that. And yes, I do see many chimneys without rain caps!
Chimney chase.
Requires the same flashing points, with an integrated crown with capillary break.
Honestly, I cannot tell what is going on here with the tiny photos. Appears there is some type of cap and a mesh material (spark arrestor or rodent barrier?)
Sometimes these have built-in flashing or curb. The low side of the curb should be exposed just like apron flashing.
I would need more photos that are larger.
no inferring necessary…it’s pretty obvious what your point was.
Jeff is just keeping me honest. He likes to do that to me, lol.
