Metal plates at base of drywall at sill?

New construction home, slab on grade; Discovered areas where metal plating protruded from below base of drywall at the sill of the garage slab. Plates only in a few areas – nothing consistent about placement. Wondering if anyone can help identify purpose/function? I’m assuming maybe they’re repair patches for where the poured slab or forms got damaged?

While these may look small in the picture (like nail protector plates), what you’re seeing is about 18" in width, with about 5" of vertical reveal. And they’re no where near any in-wall plumbing, or where I’d expect there to be subslab drain pipes.

Nail protection plates.

No, they’re much larger than that. Probably 18" wide, with at least 5" of vertical reveal. And they’re no where near any inwall or subslab piping.

Could be angle iron bridging over a void or cutout in the foundation.

Is this a garage? If so was it added to an existing house? If so it could be filled in basement windows?

No clue and if they are in fact nail guard plates, they are the largest I have ever seen! If it was me, I would report that I have no idea what they are for and the builder needs to be consulted to findout their purpose. I might also add that they are rusting and will continue to rust and be unsightly and the builder should either remove or instal galvanized ones…

That’s an interesting nailing pattern in the second picture!

Not sure what it is, but they do make an 18"x5" nail plate. Just not seeing any nail holes in the photos though.

Could have been abandoned cutouts blocked with sheet metal for a system through the concrete to an adjoining room? That’s my wag.

No, new construction and slab on grade foundation.

Do you know, not personally, but do you know who built the house? A quick call to them may help.
