As any of you may well already know. I do not hold many grudges but I do not forget things either.
OK, so fight the legislation as a whole. But in the mean time start making suggestions about language.
Put in language that only allows for home inspectors on the Board / Committee.
Put in language that only allows for 1 or 2 members from each organization.
Put in language that requires full inspections and not representational inspections.
Put in language that does not require insurance.
Put in language that does not require membership in some organization.
You are at the starting point. Write language that drives the price of home inspection higher due to the inspection requirements, and doesn’t allow for quickie, inspect nothing reports.
You can complain or you can complain and take an active part in the development of the law should it pass.
Gary, do you think the $199 inspection would continue to exist if those inspectors were not allowed to perform these quickie inspections? Do you think they would raise their prices if forced to inspect and report on more issues?
Not “my” education. I’m not a Kansas home inspector. We got your education approved in your state for you.
I always made me wonder who actually writes the language for these laws. It usually is the sponsors and lawmakers who stand to benefit financially from them. There will always be a $199 inspector, but when licensing comes into play, they will promote their cheap inspections as being licensed, and then will be able to do them, by law, which is what the RE’s want.
Sad that they are all rolling the dice on lawsuits.
I recently went to a termite class also, and it was humbbling that a termite company owner with over 40 years in the business had to sit and listen to some other teacher talk about bugs in order to renew his certification. I wonder how much money was made by the teacher, and how much of a “fee” was paid to the state agency submitting the certifications.
Good question Gary. I know InterNACHI pays hundreds of thousands of dollars for the right column of www.nachi.org/education.htm and the money we pay to different government agencies increases every year.

Nick -
Sorry, I must be confused … Myself, Mark Adams, Stacey Van Houtan, Mike Pritchett, Jeff Fielder-Bey, David Moriconi, James Braun, John Kurtz, Todd Kirkpatrick, etc MUST have been making MULTIPLE trips to the Capitol of Missouri to meet with the legislators AND holding meetings at various places in the state for home inspectors, builders, code inspectors, the media etc trying to beat the licensure issues down … BUT as you said:
So although you were not here, I guess I’ve forgot what side we were on.
I’ve also made myself a personal note about WHAT you will use as your excuse as to HOW I am a “Pro-Licensing” guy. If I win I’m gonna treat myself to a steak dinner at the Hereford House in KC cause I’m pretty sure I know what you’ll use as your reasoning.
If I’m wrong, I’ll buy your dinner at the next Stucco / EIFS Class you hold up in Boulder.
Dan, in your post #35 of this thread you correctly referred to the NHIE as the
I view you as pro-licensing because you personally give thousands of dollars to support an organization that pushes for lower standards including licensing that uses the simplistic NHIE.
I respect your right to be pro-licensing. Members on both sides of the issue have some good arguments to support their thinking.
Dan,
Enjoy your steak dinner!
The important question is … who will win the championship game between the Giants and the 49ers? I’m picking San Francisco.
I’m going with the Giants.
Thanks James, he did exactly what you and I thought he would.
Nick - Why did I know you would somehow refer to membership in ASHI as your reason that I MUST be “Pro-Licensing”.
So by the same reasoning all boy scouts must “be prepared”; all “Pro-Lifers” must support bombing abortion clinics and killing doctors, nurses, etc; all Catholics must support Priests that molest children; etc; etc.
AND since you don’t object to the NHIE, you must be “Pro-Licensing & Pro-ASHI”. Nick this line is getting really old.
It should be a very close and low scoring game.
Jim, on a more important matter… who are you picking to win the Super Bowl?
I don’t have a pick, yet, since the Saints were eliminated. I have to regroup, I guess.
Pretty sure it will be the 49ers and New England in the game.
How about you?
The real game will be held in Jefferson City, MO, and it will be KC vs. St. Louis.
NAHI at its finest - fight the good fight - nobody else but NAHI members can defeat this bill… give me a fricking break Dan, I know numerous Missouri & Kansas inspectors that spent a ton of time fighting these leaches off in the past not just the ones of a certain Home Inspector organization and these same inspectors are now working on defeating this bill(s) now as we speak … SO LETS STAY UNITED and quit with the quibbling…
Well, here we are at odds again…
I think the Giants are on a roll…
There is alot of truth in this statement!
Giants.
49ers without a doubt!
