Mock Inspection Tool

Hey all, just here to ask some questions about the mock inspection tool. Do I have to provide photos? It says optional but will it negatively affect me if I don’t? Do I have to use the one provided in the course? I only ask because I have been working with another inspector and was using the software he has to run some mock inspections of my own while taking the course.

I don’t remember having to provide photos, and it didn’t negatively affect me. I never heard a word from anyone about my mock inspections. As far as the form you use, I would recommend just using the one NACHI provides, it will be less hassle in the end.

Like Ryan said, use what NACHI provides and get it done with. Once you get done with your training, your real work starts. You need to figure out your reporting. NACHI trains you to inspect the house but there isn’t much training about getting your findings onto a report. You need to practice and perfect reporting: Inspect a home and also produce a finished report from your findings. Review that it meets all the requirements of the SOP. There are a lot of threads in this forum about reporting.

Expand your thinking. Don’t you think that is part of the reason for performing Mock inspections?
IMO, the Mock inspections and reports should be performed to the best of the inspectors ability. In fact, they should be performing as if they are working for a real client, and present the finest report they are capable of. Only then will they have a ‘Baseline’ of reality to base all other work going forward.

Maybe they should be required to post their mock reports on the forum. Oh, the fun.

But they would definitely get some feedback! My mocks were perfect, as I received no feedback.

Like Code… I’m sure they met the bare Minimum standards!

This. This is helpful thank you.

Typically, you will find one out of twenty comments on here helpful. The others form bits & pieces of a scavenger hunt that you have to put them all together to extract the information you are looking for.

What a home inspection check list? I used them relentlessly for 18 months. Every inspection.

Peer review is important. It is one of the best ways to learn.

I went so far as to pepper some of my training dialogs with a request to contact me if they want a free pizza, which I would have done by the way. As far as I can tell, there’s a giant bit bucket(showing my IT roots) into which all the training “reports” and inspections fall. It’s called WORN. Write once, read never.

Mine, too, and I did a gingerbread house.

YES please!

My pleasure.
Josh. The Home Inspection template I emailed you is a bona fide reporting system from a home inspection educator I certified with 15 years ago before I recertified with InterNACHI. It covers 'all the necessary Structures Systems and Components you require to preform a complete home inspection report. This is the recording/reporting home inspection report format inspectors used up until about 15 years ago. Pictures of defects, ><10, if any, were added at the end of the report.

I will help you preform your mock inspection reports.
