I second, Electrophysics
Don’t go for pinless - they don’t work on stippled ceilings.
Electrophysics web address. I use it and it’s very good. Reads 1" below surface.
I have this moisture meter. I works great. It is a dual purpose moisture meter. Intrusive and non-intrusive. It is pricey… but worth it.

The Dual Mode Moisture Meter
This unique Surveymaster moisture meter has two modes of operation - search and measure. Search and measure help the user to distinguish sub-surface from surface moisture, essential information when trying to establish the extent and cause of a dampness problem.

I use the Electrophysics CT33 and it works well in all my applications.
