Hi Steve, I from Canada, however The Indoor Air Quality Assoc. could be of help to you. Also, check the NACHI Table of Contents. I remember some co’s offering NACHI members discounts. The Institute of Inspection Cleaning & Restoration (IICRC) offers certification for professional mold remediation. The IICRC S520 standard & reference guide is a must read. Hope that helps a little. My point Steve, though poorly made, was that to enter the mold field, it’s going to take more than a weekend course to be qualified. You won’t be performing a service of any value by taking samples and sending them to a lab. The field of microbiology is best left to those that are educated in microbiology.
Charging for a service that has no real value is paramount to theft. Don't sell your destiny for a mess of pottage.
Our profession is tarnished enough already by sheisters hawking alarm systems, doing "fair to the house" inspections and other shady practices. We don't need to add mold testing to the growing arsenal of where inspectors can suck a buck for the sake of a buck.

Hi Chad, While you are entitled to your opinion, I don’t agree with you entirely. While it’s important to maintain professionalism & provide value for services offered, not all of us who offer mold sampling services are dishonest. Mold sampling can be a valuable service to our clients. Providing honest answers about mold not hype or scare tactics is important to some with allergies or compromised immune systems. Being able to help these individuals by providing documentation by means of a lab report can be reassuring to some. The fact we can make a good dollar providing this service is not wrong either. That’s why were in business. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Have a great day! Doug

Twofold reply…First to Steve…with regards to your inquiry on mold. I’m not sure exactly what your goals are, but if you are simply wantign to add a simple mold test to your list of services, and NOT intending on going into the field of remediation as a full-time profession, I might be able to offer an opinion. One lab that offers products for the home inspector is reliable lab…put that in a google search to ontain the website address,I forget it at the moment…anyway, look at their product line and it will give you some ideas. As far as the replied you got in here previous to this post, I understand BOTH points of view, Chad is a friend of mine from NY and I trust his judgement, and understand where he is coming from. I also understand the point the other inspector made too though. Personally, I lean that way because I am also in the process of setting up to offer simple testing at a modest cost. I am not going to price gouge, and I am also going to fully explain that my service is only a simple test, not an exhaustive remediation…remember, being upfront builds the reputation that we want to maintain and that will keep us in business!
