Saw these on two different decks today. I’ve not encountered this type of notching before. Must be a growing fad.

Did they even have a building permit for this deck? There is more things wrong with the deck than just the notched 4x4s

Thanks everyone for the input and the valuable resource which is now a part of my library. Each report informed the client that the deck was a Safety Concern. I appreciate the help.
