As far as can be ascertained, this is the first for a project of this kind. PLEASE be generous with your thoughts and ideas.

Nick,

This is a fantastic idea. I can?t wait to see the results of this educational House of Horrors.
Do you think NACHI could consider including some sort of mentored program/test at these locations in order to qualify HI's for the CMI designation that we had tossed around earlier on the MB ?

National Home Inspector Training Institute will definitely be renting this! Gary and I have already discussed the idea of using a home for this, but it would be much better this way.

I must say, these brilliant ideas are the stuff the association should be doing, not “Branding” as some other association which I still belong to is doing.

Excellent idea and project undertaking.

Once built, can you imagine the PR these would generate on all the local news casts? Of course you can, you already thought of that too. Talk about getting free, and good, PR.

Aggressive and bold. Shows indications of propelling NACHI to the top of the education chain. Those undertaking this endeavor better have their armor suits out of the cleaners. It’s going to take stamina, commitment, and patience. One word of caution. Most municipalities are getting away from pole construction. Several have requirements of monolith footers and slabs now.

Nick, Is there a projected target date.

This is an excellent idea.

Acually, I had a similar idea to search for a fixer upper, and
see how many local members would be interested in setting it up
for mock inspections.

I met the executive director of a local builders association at the
Home Show last weekend. Perhaps our chapter can partner with
them for a similar project.

Perhaps we can discuss this when you're in Michigan next month.

It's on the page that Nick posted the link for. I just assumed it would be 6 different locations.

Nick,

I'm flipping properties here in San Antonio and have some good contacts for foreclosure homes. If you let me know what you're looking for and what price range I can find something down here.

Patrick,

I would imagine that the propertys would need to be commercial rated and big enough to support a parking lot and big enough for a shell to go on the outside of the existing house.

Naturally other considerations include, electric, water, gas, septic, care keepers(maintenance personnel), taxes, fire system, emergency lighting, lawyers, brokers, realtors, code officials, zoning officials, ordinance officials, and so on.

Just a little bit of general info.

Hello Nick,

What is the latest information on this?

Just a thought on obtaining properties. A very good place to look for this type of property is in unincorporated areas, generally the country, around major cities. With the real estate market as it is around Dallas there are a vast number of homes on these 2 acre lots that would fit the bill. An added benefit here is the existence of an on site sewage facility (septic) and possible well adding even more training opportunities. Being in an unincorporated area allows much more freedom to build or construct what you want such as one of these facilities. It would be easy to find older homes with foundation problems to boot.

The foreclosure rate here is astronomical and the time is ripe to buy here. I would be more than happy to scout homes if you would be considering this area.

Looks like the same old thing. Big idea with the impression that this project is being done, but once again no news in almost a year. Plenty of members offered help with no replies. Now I read Nick is moving to Canada for a couple months to help with licensing, this place is getting crazier by the day, check that I mean by the hour. Man I hope the biz picks up now after the holidays so I will not have time to read the spin zone. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hello Chuck,

Went hunting but did not see any news about Nicks 2 month trip to Canada. I do see he is headed up to a chapter meeting there. Where did you see the info from?

Thanks
