When someone gets killed maybe then you will change your mind. Just remember I SAID IT WOULD HAPPEN.

I cannot expres enough how foolish you all are who believe that pictures prove anything.

Please explain how it helps you to jump thru these hoops and sucking the insurance companies a-s by giving them what ever they want.

On the other hand screw it, stay foolish and keep doing what you will because I know you will never get it.

Mike, I see reports all the time that are missing key pictures and when I inspect the house I come up with a different answer and my picture proves the findings. It also helps with an owner that says " I have single wraps" then I crawl around the attic and find clips. How do I prove that without a picture? I can also tell if someone is using a stock photo and usually tell if their marks on the truss are done using the mt scaner or the just marked it, they do look different. Like John says, no one is forcing you or anyone else to do these inspections. I for one enjoy doing them and get better at them everyday. I have a system that works really well, somethings I learned from guys here others were by trial and error. If you stop fighting it, you may actually enjoy it.

Well said John.
Wow, talk about a storm in a tea cup. What is the big deal? The insurance companies want pictures, because they have worked out the error rate to be over 70%. pictures will help lower, but not eliminate, that percentage. Yes scumbags will cheat, but in doing so they will provide the rope to hang themselves.
Personally, it is very rare that i have to move more than a few feet from the attic access. On a low slope roof I don’t get off my ladder. The rest is done with a 16’ collapsible extension pole with a camera, and flashlight, attached to the end. Its very rare that you can’t find a shiner within arms reach, and I don’t think I have ever felt that I was putting myself in any danger, doing these inspections.

baaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaa baaaa baaa baaaa baaaaaaaaa

I do like doing them as well. I do not like my professional opinion being questioned by an idiot behind a desk.

I can see and identify things that cannot be easily photographed.

Even if the requirements were dropped I would not change the way I do it. Because I like to have something for my OWN USE to go back on.

I DO NOT BELIEVE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT GET THE CREDITS THEY DESERVE BECAUSE THE IDIOTS DO NOT HAVE THE PICTURES THEY WANT.

So many times I wonder why I bother trying to show you all the light. A great many of you are just sheep that follow along and do whatever you are told and do not take the time or energy to bother to figure if it is right or not.

Yess em I get right on it. I go right back right now sir and getya the picture. You all are like some sort of slaves to the insurance companies or something. Try using that dedication on you clients and standing up for their rights.

It is really amazing to watch this Message Board to see the people who complain about everything sink themselves and there credibility lower and lower everyday. Just by the kind of pictures they take, Hell! I would question it too… Underwriters are suppose to question and inquire that is their job

One thing is taking pictures of the roof shape, truss system, decking and when possible pictures of the H clips and other metal brackets. But, this S**t of pictures of nails, marking spacing in a 120F attic space, getting way into the attic risking your life… to take a picture of a ruler …is somewhat stupid!](,)](,)

**Grabbing a MT6 with one hand and taking a picture with another standing on a ladder six feet ladder from the floor on a 120F attic is ridiculous-X. I do not need the money that bad. You guys can go and kiss the insurance agent butt and keep doing what your doing=D>. We soon will hear in this message board of someone stupid that fell through into some house living room crushing his nuts and becoming a handicap. **

Keep on sucking maybe you’ll get a few referrals from the underwriters.

It really floors me of the attitude of a great many of you. I guess that is why there never has been a license for this profession before.

It really is pathetic how many of you do not think or stand up for yourselves or your clients.

At least with me the client KNOWS who’s side I am on.

Wow big smart words

Keep on slurping.

Ohh yeah lots and lots of big words and pictures give things value. I always forget that one.

I guess I need to start doing some 15 page wind mits.

These pictures originally came about by one of the entities doing re-inspections. They had someone checking all work before it was turned in. Not a bad idea for quality control. The insurance companies liked the idea and threw it into the the last two 1802 forms. What is getting ridiculous is having to crawl around an attic looking for a shiner to satisfy these companies. Some things need to be left to discretion. The problem really came from inspectors falsifying reports. How many of you know of instances where two homes were exactly the same on the same block and would come back with different information? One homeowner would throw away a report that did not give him credits and hire the one that gave him the discounts.

How many times have you heard of an agent get upset with the way a form is marked because his client will not get a certain credit? What do they do? They go to an inspector who marks it the way they want it to. Why? Because they are in the business of selling insurance. And they cant sell insurance if they don’t write policies. They don’t care what is on the house so long as they get their commission (sounds strangely familiar to another group we know).

The underwriters caught wind of what was going on and now they require the pictures. Our own industry did this to ourselves. We created the situation and now we have to live with it.

You have inspectors out there now doing these things for $75.00. Some do 10 a day and make good money. They could make a lot more by raising prices, but once the bar is set it is hard to raise it.

The only wind mits i do are for clients who are having home inspections done. It adds a little bit to my price and keeps my clients happy. No one will hire me because I will not do a stand alone wind mit for less than $125.00.

When we have a hurricane come through and damage is caused and these forms were not written properly. I hope all of your E&O insurance is paid up, because you can bet your rulers and MT6’s that there will be law suits filed and complaints filed with the DBPR.

I agree with Meeker that we should not have to be doing a lot of what we are doing, but because of bad apples doing them wrong this is where we are now. To those of you killing yourselves crawling around in the attic, I wish you good luck. It is only a matter of time before you land on someones floor. Think of how many inspections it will take to pay for that one.

bump

I am happy at least a few of you agree that what we are forced to do to make sure our clients get the credits they deserve is foolish and dangerous. At least we will have a clear conscious when someone does get killed.

I am sure the rest of the sheep will start some fundraiser for the poor saps family to ease their minds.

I will have a clear conscience if someone gets killed doing a wind mit. It ain’t my fault. When we do things that are dangerous and that is the nature of what we do we need to be careful. Be safe, take care, never rush the job, think before you act!

I hope it never happens- especialy not to me! But the fact that I think about the possibility of the occurrance helps to keep me a little safer.

That is exctly my point! and I do agree with THE MEEKER on this one. It is a matter of time to read in this message board that an InterNACHI inspector broke his neck looking for a nail inside a 112F attic. All that for $75.00.-X

So now that we have a few that agree with me do any of you have any ideas on how we can make sure these requirements are not in the next form.

Thanks to all who have called and emailed me about your support and I understand why you do not want you opinions put on these message boards.

You should not care how a few regulars feel and we should group together and do what is right.

First of all, you would need to show a “need” for the requirement to be eliminated…

How long have Wind Mits. existed?

How many Wind Mits. have been performed?

How many (verifiable) Wind Mits. have resulted in Death? (your claim)

In my opinion, you have a-snowballs-chance-in-hell of making any significant change. You have the option of not performing Wind Mits., therefore, you’re SOL.

JMHO.

This is the first time pictures were a requirement in rev. 2/10.

I do not have an attitude that just accepts things because that is the way it is.

It is wrong, dangerous, and useless, It does nothing but endanger the lives of the people doing them and the property of the clients.

Many more have been done without those asinine requirements than have been done with them.

Take your issue directly to the OIR. Attend their meetings and write letters. That is where you could affect change. Complaining here does no good. (Although this board has been visited by some others, I am not sure if they are willing or have the power to suggest the changes you request)

Heck, I just want them to fix the mistake they made by adding that one line to the form  Easy enough for them to do. Highlight sentence and hit delete.
