Need a new camera

My trusty Nikon 880 bit the dust and I need to get a replacement. Obviously something somewhat rugged is desired. No need for more than 3 mega pixels. I’d like a 3-4x zoom and one that uses compact flash cards instead of the smaller SD cards (I already have CF cards and card reader). Suggestions folks?

Thanks,
Ron

I use a Nikon 4300 as a backup camera ( always have a backup with me).

It a great camera and uses the cf card.

My main camera is a Panasonic DMC-FZ10 Lumix. I have nothing but phrase for this one. It is 4 mp with a 12x optical Leica lens. Totally awesome !! It uses the sd card however.

Ronald,

The Canon PowerShots are very good. A lot of them use CF cards. and range from 3 MP on up.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went shopping on the web and local over the weekend and ended up with a Nikon 4800. 4mp (more than enough for inspections), 8.3X zoom (quite a bit more than my old 3X), uses the same batteries as my old Nikon (good), but it uses a SD card instead of CF. Practically all point and shoot have gone to SD cards to save space. So I’ll live with that. Got it at Sam’s for about $253.

i bought a kodak easyshare cx7300. 3.2mega pix with 3x dig.zoom. paid $100 at k-mart, about $50 for case, rechargables and charger and mem.card. dropped it twice still works fine. but that’s my beginners camara. who know how long it will last. so far so good i love the quality and easy to use. thanks for listenting, oh if anyone from kodaks’ marketing team is reading this, just mail me my endorsment check. thanx. icon_cool.gif

Sony Cybershot is my choice.

Had a DSC-P30 for over four years, many drops, untold number of attics and crawl spaces, still worked great. Unfortuanately, the last drop broke a little tit off the battery cover. Now to get it to work, I have to manually hold (duct tape??) the battery cover shut.

Have replaced it with a Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 for $199.00 at Office Depot.

Best feature of both is the ADF Beam when the flash is activated. Let's me shoot in dark places without having to hold a flashlight to make sure it's pointing right. I don't even have to hold it up to my eye to shoot in the dark. Just aim the little orange beam and shoot. Let's me have three point contact in attics and still take good photos.

Carry both of them in a belt pouch with velcro closure.

Ebay. They have it all. You can often find new ,older models dirt cheap.

I use several but my hp 735 is slow but i have taken 15,000 pics and dropped it so many times, yet takes great pics. It also take great pics in the dark without changing settings.

I want to find one of those wide angle cameras that Realtors use to make the rooms look so big. ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

quality photos. They are blury. So much so that I can not include them in a professional report. It has taken the odd good clear photo outside in very bright sunlight. Other than that it is useless. I have just been using the built in 64M memory and have not added any cards. I have also played around with the settings (size, resolutions, auto flash, etc) in different combos but without success.

If anyone has any suggestions on maybe something I'm doing wrong please let me know. What should I look for in buying a new camera to get clear usable photo for my reports?

Damn it. Saw the Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 at Wal-Mart today for only $179.00.

I use a fire wire to my USB port to transfer pictures from the camera's Memory Stick to my Hard Drive. 64MB Stick holds a couple of hundred photos. I don't use lots of MegaPixels and I still get excellent photos for my report.

Dell has it for $161.00

Take it back! or have them match the price.

Try…

Also, Consumer Reports.

I find that reviews by knowledgeable subject matter experts are reliable and a good starting point.

I stopped at a good-sized pawn shop & picked up a “backup” camera.

In it, I just wanted (to match existing camera):

SD card

Flash

AA batteries ( I recharge)

USB unloading.

For $30, used, couldn't go wrong!

I’ve gotten some good deals on Ebay. I use Olympus cameras as they use SD & xD memory and can use AA batteries.

I prefer the D-450 & D550 as they enclose the lens when turned off and I've sent them thru some rough beatings when crawling.

I set mine at the lowest setting as I have to resize them anyway when uploading to my reports and at 360 dpi they still come out great.

I would think so in time. I’m sure most of the war work is done and I’ll bet they have been busy on our golf coast line for a few weeks and depending on resources I’d venture to say they’ll be there soon.

My unit was the 823rd out of Hurlbert Field Fl. I have to admit I miss it.
