New construction drain for a soaker tub- extra elbows

this is under a large soaker tub, was wondering if there was a reason for the extra bends. I know rule of thumb is as short and direct with as few hard bends as possible. Just poor planning or something I just don’t understand? this is new construction.

IDK, but I was thinking a clean out would be handy in that 180*. :man_shrugging:

Martin @mwilles will be along to help with a “for sure”.

I’m really not sure what other options they had.

It should be celebrated anytime that a plumber does not destroy the joist.

Thanks for the feedback!

Poor planning of the plumbing layout. Luckily it is a tub and not a poop route with solids.

Make sure you call out the hole in the sub-floor next to it for fire/smoke penetration since it was not sealed off.

Possibly a trap of some type?

Looks like the main problem is trying to run too much in that once single joist bay. If the trap were in a separate bay it would have been easier/cleaner.

It’s just crappy workmanship. The real craftsman have retired.

Just came back from a pre-closing inspection. The buyer is a retired plumbing company owner from New York.

He and I had some great stories to tell however, workmanship in the current builds was a topic of discussion. We both agreed all the good plumbers have already retired. The same goes for carpenters, electricians, etc.

Yes, and just insert any skilled job there, unfortunately.

In my area, for example, it’s impossible to find a trim carpenter that know how to craft anything.

They all became home inspectors…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Getting paid to just look at some thing and report on it as a pretty decent gig!

While I agree with you, every tradesman in history has said this.

So how long have you worked in the trades?

I’ve been around and in the trades since 1978 when my dad owned his own electrical contracting business. Hopefully that is enough time for you.

Maybe the people retiring from the trades are just terrible teachers. Or maybe their kids that are entering the trades are just terrible learners.

Dad being an electrician doesn’t qualify you! Have you ever worked for someone other than your daddy?
