New inspector with a couple questions

Good evening,

New inspector here and I saw someone asked this in 2003, but what are the companies that will insure a new inspector? Also I see HIP and Spectora are the 2 softwares that most use, what are the thoughts on these. Are there any others that are better or are they all about the same?

Thank you
Brody

I do inspections for buying agents and repairs for listing agents, I see a lot of reports.

Homegauge is the most common, Hip is there, Spectora is fairly common and there is a smattering of unidentifiable ones that come across my transom.

I use Spectora mostly because I am a few years into this business and I wanted a strong mobile platform. This is not to say the other’s are not good at Mobile reporting or that there are not other ways to do the reporting. It’s a fit for me and I found the reports the easiest to read and understand. It’s not cheap for a starter software though.

You need to experiment. They all have some sort of trial period. Get one and try it, see what you think.

Any insurance company that offers home inspector coverage will sign on a new inspector.

I use HIP, but I purchased it before a subscription was needed, but now that PORCH bought them it’s all subscription based now. But I own my software and have zero monthly fee to use it. You need to look at sample reports for all report software. Use the one you like. For me, I hate a checklist report. It’s unnecessary to mark all the things you inspect, unless required by your states SOP. I do a full narrative report and only report defects and the required InterNachi SOP items.
I have seen lots of reports over the years and I can’t stand the look of a report that’s just black and white either. I use many colors in my reports and use HIP’s multi-summary feature. So it separates items in the summary by the defect category.
