I wanted to let y’all know about a scam that someone has tried on me twice. Someone tries to set up a home inspection. They ask if you take cashier checks. They will mail the check and get it to you before the inspection. Then the check will be for much more than the Inspection. I guess at that point they would want you to cut a check for the difference. I haven’t actually gotten to that point, I tore up the check and told them so. this last time when they asked me if I took a check, I asked them if it was local bank like Truist or Bank of America. I never heard back.
Lots of these on the forum.

It is a scam, but its anything but new.
“I’m sending you more to pay for the plumber” or some such nonsense.
I’m just curious if anyone falls for that, and who exactly are they paying? Someone shows up in a beat up Toyota Corolla and says “I’m de plumber”
The plumber is only going to accept Venmo or Cashapp or similar. No one will be showing up. These scammers are likely not in the US.
Yeah, I figured that much, but some of these scams make it sound as if the plumber(or electrician, or WDO, or whatever) will also be there doing something and can you pay them.
I guess you get there and get a text “I finished up, can you zelle me the money” or somesuch.
I’d love to just photoshop the zelle payment with one letter changed.
“I sent it to D0VE plumbing, just like you asked”.
Watch them lose their thieving minds.
It happens to every trade or business.
A guy I know owned a flooring business for a few years. The scammers got him out of over $5,000.00 with this same set up. He and people like him are easy prey as they are always looking at the shiny dazzle instead of stepping back and thinking things through.
That one has been around for 20 years
Definitely not even close to new, this is extremely common, unfortunately some must fall for it, or it would have went away
Exactly, it it didn’t pay out, they’d stop and move on to some other scam.
