Will,
My brother in Viet Nam understood what he fought for.
When your daughter sees similar active duty some day
she will come away with an understanding as well.
a motto of my brother
engraved on his lighter
(that i have)…
“Freedom has a Price
the Protected will Never Know”
It was not a smart thing to do, how ever they will be punished for their actions. Young people make mistakes and regret it, we were not there so how can anyone judge their actions at that time, did they loose friends or comrades ? would anyone of us do the same thing? .
How ever i am surprised of some of the posts asking if these were soldiers laying on the ground. What ever they were they were people in their country defending what they think is right ,if wrong or right that is a question in itself.
I am sure if soldiers were only ones to battle invaders then The USA would have a Union Jack flying .
The Men and Women of the military have a hard enough time over there without any bad **** coming all over the press and internet . The indivals will be dealt with their piers .
Shame on anyone thinking it is OK desecrating on any Human after death of this kind. People are better than that and as usual and handful cast a shadow on all the good .
99.999 percent of the military are the best of the best . with anything Mistakes will be made especially with emotions of a young solider who has been under attack.
Today’s world is on film and i am sure a lot was done in previous wars that went undocumented .
Here is a response, which I completely agree with, from Rep, former Colonel Alen West.
“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”
Don’t throw these guys to the media or lefty wolves, punish them internally. This is not a court martial event.
I believe that being dragged throth the streets, kicked, mutilated, hung and burned is somewhat more “degrading” then being pee’d on, but maybet that’s just me.
And, you will remember that when the Marines did go into Fallugah and took it back, they did not do anything to the dead fighters at that time.
Look, guys, this is war and crap happens. There are always a few clowns to go too far. But this is no reason to make an international case over this. Administrative justice, under the UCMJ, not a court martial show trial.
Dontchya think it’s evident these paticular Marines threw themselves to the media. I don’t think it was CNN, Fox News or NBC who was holding the camera or who posted the video to the WORLD WIDE WEB.
And how on Gods Green Earth could anyone compare our fighting Men & Women to the scumbag bastards that desecrated our finest? We are better than that!! The term “two wrongs don’t make a right” comes to mind.
Yea, war is hell & a whole lot of s hit goes on that we never see or hear about & never should. Just as it infuriates us when we see our finest being dragged & burned, this situation will infuriate most of the Middle East & just give them more incentive to continue their bloodbath against us, only with more vengence. Ask yourself this, by pissing on those bodies, recording it & then posting it, who did they hurt more, the piss-soaked dead scumbags or our Servicemen who are over there still fighting and trying to win the “hearts & minds”?
Anyone who videotapes or allows themselves to be videotaped while, for lack of a better term, “being stupid”, deserves to have the book thrown at them & thrown at them hard.
On another note, the time has long past that we should have pulled our troops out of that hell hole.
It is unclear who actually posted the video to YouTube. Young people, regularly, post things that they shouldn’t. I heard arguments today that the posting was the problem. I disagree. If this occured, there is little difference whether it was posted or not, other than this becoming a big deal.
Administrative justice within their Battalion. Not a court martial offense.
As a past USMC Scout / Sniper what some liberals don’t understand is several things; 1) Often after a good shoot-em-up we’d get loaded and then need to pee AND sometimes in our drunken state we’d miss the ground and accidently hit live OR dead boggies in the vicinity (purely our poor aim, nothing personal); 2) Often after a good shoot-em-up we’d MARK the ground around the dead boggies by peeing on it to keep ants, snakes, other pests away from these honored fighters; or 3) Sometimes they looked a little bit alive and with limited water supplies we were trying to help keep them cooled off laying there in the hot sun; or 4) Sometimes we saw ants crawling over them and not wanting to touch them to knock the ants off AND be accused of physical brutality we used our fire hoses to knock the little critters off these poor guys.
SO Miss Hillary … Lets NOT jump to conclusions and look like Jane Fonda
Instead lets honor these poor underpaid Marines for their brotherly act to the violent opponents.
