NJ-ALPHI
I was at the initial NJ-ALPHI meeting last night. There was a great turn out despite the weather.
There were over 100 people in attendance!
An unnamed member of the Advisory Board was there also.
I spoke with Pat Porzio, Steve Hochstein and Bill Portman about our February 25th meeting. Pat asked me to email him the details and he would try to get a couple of people to attend.
They had a 2 hour seminar, state approved for 2 CEU's, on chimneys and there problems.
There were GS ASHI applications for anyone that was interested in joining. They encouraged multiple memberships and spoke about their role in the business as being a united voice for all HI's and all organizations.
One of the students pushed for a plan regarding mentoring and the question was directed to Bill Portman. Bill said he had a plan he was working on but final details were not in place.
His plan is to have the students inspect their houses as a group under the tutelage of a licensed inspector. As many as 8 students would attend the inspection. Bill thinks there is some doubt that the Advisory Board would approve the plan because the inspection is supposed to be an "inspection for a fee". Stay tuned. I had Bill for a couple of modules and he said he would stay in touch with me. Because of Bill's location this will force South Jersey people to travel great distances!
Each meeting will carry 2 CEU's. There will be 10 meeting a year which will fulfull the 20 CEU per year NJ requirement. For those who can't make all the meetings there will be a one day seminar which will have 6 CEU's. Certificates are being sent after each meeting as proof of attendance for the CEU's
Many of their plans for committes etc are not yet finalized.
No one at the meeting seemed to know about the NACHI NJ meeting. We will need to get the word out !!!

Phil,
I was at the meeting, too. I thought the chimney guy's presentation was very professional, although he was obviously selling his services. The guy from the advisory board was the same guy recruiting inspectors at the table in the lobby. I was with him to represent the company.
