Ran across this outlet in a garage today in a 1962 vintage home. I have never seen this particular kind of outlet. Thought at first that my vision was getting blurry. Anyone else ever seen this? By the way, this house had regular three wire "grounded" system. Just in case anyone is wondering the light switch goes to the attic light.

In the 50s and 60s there were lots of multi outlet receptacle designs. The 3 prong plug tended to limit that because of the footprint. I have one in my junk box that has 3 in a single yoke but it can’t be used with a regular plate. I see that as the advantage of the design you showed. I bet there are people who would buy that design for the receptacle next to their bed. I know I used to always run out of outlets there. I have quads on both sides of the bed now (after my remodel). I also installed 3 ways for the lights with a switch next to the bed.

Greg,
I hear you on running out of outlets next to the bed. I have the same problem and installed one of those quad after market recepticle. With all the things we typically have on the nightstand, phone, alarm, lamp it runs out pretty quick. BTW my post meant to say…Thanks for the reply. I am going to ask the man who is buying the house if I can have that outlet because he plans to replace it with a GFCI recepticle.
