Is this from mud tubes? I didn’t see any damage or active tubes. I only saw this one spot…
Thanks!
Something else…I think that wood would be gone if it were termites. Maybe snails eating that fungi? That wood has a bigger problem.
I’ll take your word for it, but care to elaborate?
I didn’t think it was either. I thought it seemed a bit too erratic and clustered for termies, plus the lack of damage, but I’d be curious to hear your reasoning.
There were a lot of slugs down there!
That is definitely a WDO of some form. I’m seeing some small holes like some of the smaller WDO, but that looks like Old House Borer trails, but they dig big journals out, they don’t just scour the surface.
Is it possible this was mud tubes and someone scraped them off?
Also, the other beam behind it looks eaten up or rotting out too.
I think Brian may be right. There’s actually a few other spots I didn’t notice at the time, but am seeing in my photos upon review. I think it’s some sluggy boys slurping up some funk, and not a WDO.
Should I flag it for potential WDO, or just “pests” and then call out the moisture issues?
The other beam looks worse in the photo than it really is.
Evidence of WDI gets called out (be careful, some states won’t let you). Mark said bore holes…I’d look hard at that.
It doesn’t look worse than it is, it is bad. That is definitely WDO (fungi, rot, etc) And moisture is the culprit.
Take a screwdriver and poke in a few spots where the trail is. Let us know.
