What do you suppose is the fire-rating for OSB? Wood-frame house I was in today has OSB for walls and ceiling.
Read this post.
Is that OSB or crud board?
Looks like MDF.
Looks like MDF to me as well.
The upside? Get it wet, it becomes twice the barrier and will smolder for hours before it finally burns. Of course it has the structural rigidity of wet toilet paper at that point, but hey at least the flames won’t kill you before the fumes do.
Cryin’ shame that the guy has to put his trophies in the garage.
Don’t look like Florida deer.
Bigger in FL? Living in far NE GA, our deer are much smaller than that of South GA and other ares due to the mountain terrane. This year I’m seeing many bucks that have larger racks than I’ve ever seen. Also in groups of 4 or 5…which is rare in this area.
A few years ago, I was in the Florida panhandle for Hurricane Michael. I could not believe how many people had button bucks; 6-8 point & does mounted. It was completely different than what I am used to seeing in Iowa.
Must be all the snowbirds from Chicago… they’ll shoot anything!!
I live in Florida but have never hunted deer here. 30 years in Florida and I have never seen a deer that looks bigger than a dog. The deer here are small and it never gets cold enough long enough to kill off all the worms. I have hunted in Oregon, Washington, Maine, and Texas and all have much larger deer. Drive I-4 and I-95 and see all the roadkill, the deer are small here, the bears are small here, nothing but the trash heaps, Landfills are large in Florida. Well maybe the mosquitoes could carry you away.
It is quite possible that the osb is installed over drywall. Have seen that in my travels. Sometimes removing a switch plate will provide visibility behind the osb or whatever is covering the walls.
No - when I took the cover off the electric panel - I can see the wood framing. Also, the joints between sheets are a little “off” - I can see the framing in several spots. And the wood is visible from the attic space. So, not only is the material wrong, but it’s not done well.
Why is the material wrong? There is flame rated and flame retardant treated (FRT) OSB.
Are there any visible stamps on the panels?
It’s the American way!
Gotta buck the system that ‘requires’ consumers are ‘Safe’, even if mildly inconvenienced to do so… then sue the Manufacturer when they get injured due to their own incompetence and laziness!!
No - no visible stamps or markings. The interior is painted. In the attic, I can see the untreated other side. BTW, the seller “does construction”, so I guess it’s OK…
I see that more and more commonly, especially when the home owner is a “construction” guy. Not only that, but the door doesn’t auto-reverse either. Didn’t ask, but I’d guess he doesn’t have small children, or maybe just doesn’t allow them in the garage.
Well, not anymore…
I’ll note it and call it out as a safety hazard, especially if no fire ratings are visible based on current regulations. If the house was built prior to any regulations were imposed in my area, I note it and leave it to client and seller to hash it out. Most always nothing is done, but I CYA myself by pointing it out in my report.
