Nothing wrong with that. But you can make a note it’s OK to increase the breaker size to 40A (if it’s copper) or 30A (if it’s aluminum) if they notice frequent nuisance trips.

It is common to convert an old 50 amp range circuit into a 120 circuit when remodeling a kitchen and changing to a gas range. The #8 wire probably has #12 spliced onto it. The fact that it is #8 wire almost guarantees it is from an old 240 circuit. Was the other one taped white and landed on the neutral bus?
