This picture was from one I did awhile back, don’t recall the disconnect, I believe it was at the meter.

Has anyone seen that burn't looking stuff before?
It did not smell burn't but I recommended an electrician check the exterior panel to see if the stuff melted and ran down the wires to this interior panel.

What did the outside of the meter base look like? You are right, something is going on there. I would cut the seal and look inside but I have a phone number and a name to get it sealed again.

I bet an EC could do that too.

Bruce,

Good Call........if the panel is located directly behind the meter cab you better bet you butt needs a disconnect as greg stated. Looks to me like possible charing and melting of the jacket...did it look like they can SE in from the other side?

Anyway......always a good call if you do not know something for sure to suggest it be reviewed by a EC. Chances are here they will have to call the local UTY and have the meter pulled.....

Feel good.....you just may have saved a life.....![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif) makes it a proud day to be a home inspector....![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)
