Hi,
I found some joints that may contain asbestos. Please, take a look at these pictures:
I suspect these fibers have been used there:
They have a yellowish color although they appear white in the photo. Do you think they’re asbestos? What other material could it be?

Oakum is a preparation of tarred fibre used to seal gaps. Its main traditional applications were in shipbuilding, for caulking or packing the joints of timbers in wooden vessels and the deck planking of iron and steel ships; in plumbing, for sealing joints in cast iron pipe; and in log cabins for chinking. In ship caulking, it was forced between the seams using a hammer and a caulking iron, then sealed into place with hot pitch.
The word oakum derives from Middle English okome, from Old English ...

Irrelevent of what it is suspected to be, the only way to determine if it contains asbestos is to have a sample tested in a Certified Lab… and with that being said, my opinion is that yes it is Oakum, and no it typically does not contain asbesteos… but it could!
